How many calories does one stalk of celery burn?

You must be referring to the "negative calorie diet". According to what I have read, certain foods like celery actually take more energy to digest than the calories they contain. It's not from chewing them, as some people believe, but the digestion process to break down the cellulose. Another negative calorie "food" is very cold water, since it lowers the body temperature and your body must raise its metabolism slightly in order to regulate itself back up to 98.6. Although this urban legend appears to actually be true, you probably won't see any results from it since a stalk of celery contains about 6 calories and the energy required to digest it would only be a few dozen calories at the most. Since each pound of fat contains 3500 calories, you'd have to eat a LOT of celery and cold water...and then you wouldn't be getting any of the nutrients your body actually needs to function.

Reply:Eating calories does not burn calories. You would actually have to do something to burn the calories. One medium stalk of celery does average about 6 calories consumed though.
