Very wierd corn stalk????????

i noticed in my backyard today there is a corn stalk growing by my fence it is about as tall as the fence im sure its a cornstalk but the thing is we never planted any corn??? we dont have a garden we used to but it never had corn in it how can a cornstalk just appear out of nowhere????? and when is corn in season?

My bet would be on squirrels - they bury nearly everything. It's also possible that birds dropped it. My bird feeder provided me with a great stalk of millet - sprouted up wild and I left it. The cardinals love it. And anything will sprout if it's a healthy seed and given the right conditions. (Plants will photosynthesize above 50 degrees F, so even though it's cool I've still got impatiens sprouting and blooming.)
Reply:Birds could have dropped the seed there and it grew.


Depending on where you live of I still have corn growing in Southern California it still warm enough.

Reply:I had the same thing growing in my flower garden, a bunch of them,... it was from the mixed bird seed I had in the bird feeder above it. Seems as though I had some messy birds. I had all kinds of junk growing. And the corn is not quality corn, it's like feed corn. I had to quit putting it out for the birds because it was really being a pain.
